Q: Is muzzle velocity the only thing to consider when choosing a bullet?
A:

Whereas velocity can help make shot placement easier at unknown ranges, terminal bullet performance is the most important aspect of choosing a bullet. PowerBelt Bullets are made of pure lead and will expand uniformly on impact. This is very important to the efficiency of energy dispersion to the target. If a projectile exits the far side of the target animal and continues downrange it is carrying energy with it that could have been displaced in the target animal.

Q: Can I Shoot PowerBelt Bullets in my side lock rifle?
A:

Unlike sabots, PowerBelt Bullets will shoot accurately in slower twist rifles. Obviously, the condition of the barrel combined with the shooter's ability plays a large part in determining the degree of accuracy that can be achieved. At fifty yards, sub-1" groups have been achieved from rifles with a 1:28" (fast rate of twist) all the way up to a 1:66" (slow rate of twist) and everything in between.

Q: Do I need to clean between every shot to maintain accuracy?
A:

 With sabots, cleaning between every shot is necessary to maintain accuracy - and in many cases just to get the next sabot down the barrel. Why? Because sabots leave a plastic residue in the rifling every time you shoot a round. If not thoroughly cleaned, this residue robs your barrel of accuracy and makes loading a quick follow-up shot very difficult. With PowerBelt Bullets, the plastic base only engages the rifling behind the bullet so virtually no residue is left behind. This is because upon ignition the bullet expands to engage the rifling. The plastic base follows behind the bullet then drops away after the bullet leaves the muzzle, having done its job of providing a perfect gas seal. Therefore, you can shoot 6 to 8 shots in a row, only cleaning the barrel to remove excess powder fouling.

Q: Do PowerBelt Bullets require a special bullet starter?
A:

While PowerBelt Bullets can be loaded with a standard bullet starter, it is not recommended. Here's why. Any deformation of the bullet tip during the loading process will destroy the aerodynamic integrity of the bullet. To avoid this accuracy robbing deformation, we recommend using a starter like the PowerBelt Bullet Starter. The PowerBelt Starter comes with two sets of three loading tips to fit hollow points and one set of three tips for polymer point bullets. Remember, loading your PowerBelt Bullets with a properly designed bullet starter translates to more consistent and improved accuracy.

Q: Is there an advantage of shooting copper clad over pure lead bullets?

Yes. The copper will reduce lead fouling in the bore. Copper can also leave residue but only after a high number of bullets have been fired. It is suggested that you use a lead/copper cleaning solution in your muzzleloader any time that you shoot an excessive number of rounds through it.

Q: What is the advantage of shooting AeroTip PowerBelt Bullets?
A:

 AeroTip bullets maintain a higher ballistic coefficient at longer distances than hollow point bullets and have proven to be slightly more accurate. This is due largely in part to the fact that the AeroTip's aerodynamic design allows for less wind resistance once it leaves the barrel. In addition, the AeroTip design also allows for greater penetration on game before expansion occurs - so for shooting heavy game or any game at longer ranges, the AeroTip is recommended.

Q: What kind of accuracy can I expect from PowerBelt Bullets?
A:

Accuracy depends on many conditions, including the shooter and the rifle being used. However, the consistent gas pressures provided by the PowerBelt base give almost identical bullet velocity every time. Therefore, your bullets fly the same way every time. Also, because PowerBelt Bullets are slightly under bore they are more easily pushed down the barrel. This ease of loading greatly reduces accuracy robbing damage to the bullet tip. The PowerBelt base protects the tail of the bullet from flame cutting. Therefore, the overall ballistic integrity of the bullet is maintained from the time you load it until it hits the target.

Unlike sabots, PowerBelt Bullets are full caliber sized, easy to load and do not require cleaning after every shot. This means that with a PowerBelt, you are shooting a muzzleloading bullet designed specifically for muzzleloading rifles as opposed to a pistol bullet adapted to fit a muzzleloader as is the case with saboted bullets.

Most people agree that a heavier bullet provides more energy and affords a quicker cleaner kill. The trend in muzzleloading has leaned towards lighter faster bullets for longer range shooting. It is important that you match the bullet to the rifle for optimum performance and that you choose a bullet that will provide enough energy on the game that you are hunting and out to the ranges you are expecting to shoot that game.
